Denialism: The Ever-Shrinking Puddle

Updated: Jul 1, 2020

Denialists are a steadily shrinking pool and will in time only have each other to bounce around their non-science, anti-factual arguments with. Conversion from Denialism to the Global Climate Consensus is a one-way street and we gain surprising new allies every single day.

If at this *very* late stage in the game you *still* find yourself asking the same easily Google-able questions while engaged in your latest in a string of climate denial arguments it's unlikely you care what teenager Greta Thunberg thinks about it

What you don't know (as you haven't listened to even one of her speeches & so be it) is she doesn't *want* you to listen to her. Her constant refrain is Listen To The Scientists & refers to the IPCC's 2016 Special Report on Climate each & every time.

Intergovernmental Panel On ClimateChange is the established body of authority on Climate Science & takes in results from literally 1000s of scientists from 100s of countries. They warn us under no uncertain terms we face certain catastrophe if we don't act quickly & large scale.

The exact same folks that'll tell you Greta Thunberg is being controlled by her parents or shadowy leftists will tell you the IPCC is being controlled by the United Nations and for nefarious purposes has cooked up the largest, most successful conspiracy in all of human history

The IPCC is indeed under the auspices of the United Nations but you know who isn't? NASA. The guys smart enough to land humans on the moon and send robots to Mars. So what's the deal? Were they so easily tricked or are they in your ever-growing/unmanageable conspiracy?

Just as it's NASA's official position that the Climate Crisis is real, caused by humans & demands an enormous response, so too for the AAAS & the AMS. So too for literally every well-established scientific org on the planet that has thus far taken an official position on it.

Given this array involving the entirety of the world's scientific orgs, any fair-minded & intellectually honest person would have to begin asking what world famous voices or well-established organizations bolster Denialism?

But what I've described thus far has been only the Global *Scientific* Consensus & if you're still claiming conspiracy theory I'm happy to wrap on the tinfoil hat with you and pursue it to it's logical ends. Because it's NOT JUST THE WORLD'S SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATIONS ANY MORE

If you don't want to take it from the scientists how about taking it from the businesses that have the most to lose from a world looking to rapidly divest from the emissions causing the Climate Crisis? You know, like OIL companies.

It's one thing to allege scientists (and their staffs) the world over are all part of the largest & most successful conspiracy in human history, quite another to say the President of Shell Canada has either been tricked or is a part of it all too.

Folks advocating impactful action on the Climate Crisis get painted as granola-hugging tree-eaters working out of their parent's basement in pyjamas but that's just another Denialist tactic being laid out now for the enormous lie it's always been.

If you want to allege the world's scientific organizations are all in cahoots about the Climate Crisis you now have to explain whether the world's banks are all in cahoots too. Your conspiracy gets evermore unwieldy. Or maybe they were tricked?

The world's top scientific orgs and minds. Oil companies. Banks. All either tricked or in on the game. *That's* what you're alleging? You have to admit it's getting silly. Nothing for anybody with any kind of honest or serious mind to hold onto anymore.

Denialism's an ever-shrinking pool. Nowhere is it more obvious than in the world of Big Money who is now actively betting against Denialism in BIG WAYS.

If to you money is what makes things real then it can no longer be denied: The Climate Crisis is as REAL as it gets.

Was JP Morgan tricked by Greta Thunberg's parents too or were they always in it together? You tell me. This is *your* thing.

How does the conspiracy theory work at this *very* late date? Like are we saying Greta Thunberg's parents (an opera singer & an actor) are also now manipulating the world's money managers?

At what point must we put away childish things and face our problems instead of feeding increasingly obvious bunk narratives? When Wall Street hops onboard isn't that the end of all that?

The latest bullgoose loony lefty org advocating climate action? Insurance Bureau of Canada. Again, tricked or in cahoots? Or maybe, just *maybe* you've been wrong about this stuff & have been having trouble admitting it to yourself. It only gets worse.

How about the Pentagon? Do Greta Thunberg's parents now control the "Deep State" too? Is that the thing? How does it all work? Paint me a picture.

As for the Pope, well, the Catholic Church has it's own problems with conspiracies but on Climate? That's new.

I have far more use for a horse and buggy than a King or a Queen but well said, Prince Chuck. For you Denialists, you now have to add the Pentagon, the Pope and the Royal Family to your conspiracy. To the people *you personally* know better than.

Here in Alberta if you disbelieve that humans are the cause of the Climate Crisis you no longer have a major political party at either the provincial or federal level that supports your belief. That's you. Increasingly alone. Why?

Who still defends Denialism? What well-established organization or household name? Only world renowned person/thing I can think of that at this *very* late date still stands firm with Denialism is this man. Him. If that doesn't mortify you that actually explains a few things.

Time to put away childish things. People are getting hurt. If all you care about is money then that's fine because it's already costing *all* of us an arm and a leg & only get worse so long as we don't take the required steps TOGETHER. Australia should surely be enough, no?

Australia's an historically right wing "conservative" country that just burnt itself to a crisp. Public sentiment in Aus on the Climate Crisis is changing & changing forever because the shift from Denial to Global Climate Consensus is a one-way street.

Here in Canada in our last federal election at least 63 percent of voters cast ballots for parties that put forward strong climate platforms. The only Denialist party running didn't gain even a single seat.

That Denialism steadily shrinks to nothing is more than an opinion, it's a demographic certainty. It's unfortunate that Boomers get painted with the same brush but it's not refutable that many of the world's remaining Denialists are senior citizens now.

The flip side of that demographic is the next generation of humans (our children, nieces, nephews & grandchildren) are increasingly all too aware of the manifestly terrible deal many of our generation would like to pass off on them. One day soon it's their turn to elect/govern.

Your job rely on something endangered by addressing the Climate Crisis? It's a normal healthy fear you have there. Does it make sense to deny what the world's most well respected financial institutions ALL say is coming or do we embrace reality & look for solutions together?

Do you immensely admire a civilization widely built/powered by oil and gas? ME TOO. ABSOLUTELY. But the results are in and we need change and the kicker is a lot of the things that oil and gas helped build needs building again. This is a *good* thing.

A global shift to Renewable Energy, a Circular Economy & a sustainable society is the biggest challenge in all of human history. Know what else it is? The BIGGEST RENOVATION PROJECT in all of human history. CAPITALISTS NEEDED. INDUSTRY REQUIRED. INNOVATION/COMPETITION WELCOME.

/END....?

All for now and thanks for reading. If you feel like supporting the work I do on threads like this you can buy me a cold beverage of the adult nature through this here tip jar and I thank you kindly:
